SUMMER DAY CAMP FAQS

Who can participate?
Our Summer Day Camp is geared towards participants ages 5 to 12.
 
When do the camp meet?
The camp typically meets for the duration of the Pullman School District summer break, Monday through Friday from 8 AM - 5 PM. Extended hours are available from 7 – 8 AM and 5 – 6 PM for an additional fee.
 
Does my child have to participate every day?
No. We provide options for different family schedules. Full time participation is for families that want care every week day. We also offer part time care, which can be used for three days a week, or an entire week of morning or afternoon care. In the summer, campers can be signed up for the entire camp, for a month, or for specific weeks to work with your schedule.
 
How do I register my child?
In order to register, you will need to complete and submit our registration form, which can be filled out online, or printed out and turned in. We need a new registration form for every program, even if your child is a returning YMCA participant. For first time participants, we will need your child’s Certificate of Immunization Status, also available on the website. Other medical forms cannot be substituted. We also offer online registration.
 
What does this program cost?
There is an annual Y membership fee of $50 that covers all YMCA of the Palouse programs for an entire family. The costs of the program itself vary depending on the extent of attendance. What types of payment are accepted?
The Y accepts Visa, Master Card, Discover and American Express. Payments may be made in the following ways:
  • Online at palouseymca.org
  • At the Y office with cash, check, or card
  • By mail to 105 NE Spring St. Pullman, WA 99163
  • Over the phone at 509.332.3524
 
Where does the program meet?
Camp meets at Sunnyside Elementary School in the Multi-Purpose Room.
 
Does my child need to be a student in the Pullman School District?
No. We encourage families from all over the Palouse to register. The Y does not offer transportation to and from camp.
 
Are meals provided?
The Y provides two healthy snacks every day. For lunch, families have the option of providing a packed lunch or ordering Subway sandwiches. The Y provides free lunches for children that qualify for free and reduced lunch with their school district.
 
Who are the staff?
All of our staff have a background in education and experience in the field. Staff are required to complete a background check through the Department of Early Learning. They additionally are all CPR/First Aid certified, have their food handlers card and blood borne pathogens training.
 
How large are the groups?
We divide our campers according to age and/or developmental level. Discoverers are 5 - 6 years old, Adventurers are 7 – 9 years old, and Explorers are 10 - 12 years old. What will the campers be doing?
Every week is themed and activities usually correspond to these themes. There are daily field trips around Pullman and the surrounding area. Campers go swimming twice a week and visit the Neill Public Library once a week. We stress continued academic development and literacy education over the summer as well as service learning for all of our campers. All of our programming is values-driven and informed by the YMCA’s four core values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. And camp ends every week with a Friday Party!
 
What is HEPA?
HEPA stands for healthy eating and physical activity. Our programs align under HEPA standards, which means we focus on healthy food options, physical activities, limited screen time, and offering resources for healthy choices.
